Burn Zone
In 1978 a tremendous forest fire swept through portions of Wild Basin in Rocky Mountain National Park. Because of the harsh weather and poor soil, even after 20 years much of the burned area is still barren. Small pine saplings are only just beginning to grow between the standing skeletons of the old forest. Wandering through this burned zone one cold morning I took this image of the blackened trunks silhouetted against an approaching winter storm.
